Why this existed

Building a commerce feature for one merchant is a project. Building it as a platform app makes it available to thousands with billing handled.

What we built

A Shopify embedded app with OAuth install, session storage, and app-uninstall and scope-update webhooks, plus a theme extension so merchants add the try-on block to their storefront from the theme editor without code. Behind it a plan and subscription model with credit metering and per-shop usage tracking.

Questions clients ask

Why build on Shopify rather than standalone?

Distribution and billing. The App Store puts the product in front of merchants already looking for it, and platform billing removes the payment integration entirely. The trade is platform dependency and revenue share.

Why does the theme extension matter?

Because merchants will not edit theme code, and asking them to is where installs are lost. A block they drop in from the theme editor is the difference between an install and an activation.

What is commonly missed in Shopify app development?

Webhook handling for uninstall and scope changes. Skip them and you keep billing shops that have left, or break silently when permissions change — both of which surface as support problems and bad reviews.
